🌿 Bin Plan: + Clay pots + Facecloth Wick + 4 cm Water
- Pre-water all pots so soil is evenly moist (not bone dry)
- Flip bowls or saucers upside-down inside the bin as risers
- Drape damp facecloth across bowl tops, ends dipping into bin water
- Center each clay pot on the cloth (drain hole touching the damp cloth)
- Add 4 cm of clean water to the bin (enough to keep wick ends submerged)
Slide a pebble or spacer under each bowl to protect wick path
You can feed a wick directly through the pot's drainage hole if needed for a thirstier rosemary.

- Buy sponges and cotton string/wicking material
- Cut and moisten sponges (wring out excess)
- Place each pot (peat and plastic) on its own sponge
- Insert cotton wick from water jar into or under each sponge

Ensure water jar is full and stable on tray edge
Grow light on timer (~ 12 hrs/day)
You can even poke a small hole in the sponge and feed the wick through it if you want extra contact.
The Thirsty Plants
🪴 Plan: Brick + Towel + Deep Water + Air Circulation
Thoroughly water plants before placing them on setup
Place large bricks in bins — tall enough to stay dry above final waterline
Fold towel(s) across brick tops, with long ends trailing into water at both sides
Set pots on towel-covered bricks — towel must touch both pot base and water
Fill bins with water up to 1–2 cm below brick height (10–15 cm of water total)
No plastic cover — airflow from fans will help regulate moisture, not dry it out too fast

Cooler temps mean:
- Slower evaporation
- Less transpiration
- Roots will stay more stable as long as you don’t let the peat dry out completely.
South exposure is fine as long as they don’t get baked behind glass. If it gets too warm on sunny days, toss a light sheet or cloth over them to diffuse it.
🧪 Small Test (Optional)
If you still have a few days before leaving:
- Try running this setup overnight and check the towel + pots in the morning.
- Make sure the wicking from the jar is working and that the towel isn't drying out too quickly.

- It's not dripping, just moist
- Connected to a jar of water with wicks
